Louisa Palmisano: Van driver admits causing girl's death in crash

A tragic incident unfolded in Manchester when a van driver, Rawal Rehman, admitted in court to causing the death of three-year-old Louisa Palmisano, known as Lulu, by dangerous driving. The little girl was struck while walking with her parents on Mosely Street during a family visit to the city on 22 February. Rehman, who had consumed a significant amount of cocaine and visited massage parlors in the early morning hours preceding the incident, fled the scene after the collision.

After fleeing the scene at around 10:00 GMT, Rehman was later apprehended. He claimed to have panicked in the aftermath, as per a Crown Prosecution Service spokesperson. It was revealed in court that Rehman had taken at least 20 lines of cocaine in a span of seven hours leading up to the tragic event. The prosecution argued that his driving was impaired due to the consumption of controlled substances. Rehman was remanded in custody until his sentencing scheduled for 27 May.

This is not the first time Rehman has had a run-in with the law. In 2017, he was sentenced to three years in prison for conspiracy to pervert the course of justice. This charge stemmed from an incident where he destroyed a car involved in a fatal hit-and-run in the Chorlton area of Manchester, resulting in the death of a 25-year-old man.
