Cardiff : Third day of rail disruption for bridge repairs

Rail services in south Wales are facing continued disruption as repair work on a bridge outside Cardiff Central station extends into its third day. Many journeys have been suspended or canceled due to the ongoing repair work, initially scheduled to last until April 21 but now expected to continue until the end of April 22. The impacted routes are run by Great Western Railway, Transport for Wales, and CrossCountry.

Passengers traveling in the area are advised to check the status of their service before heading to the station. National Rail issued a statement on Monday indicating that urgent repairs were necessary on a bridge near Cardiff Central, leading to the closure of some lines. As a result, a reduced service is in operation to and from Cardiff Central, with potential revisions and cancellations throughout the day until April 22.

Transport for Wales has also notified customers of delays and cancellations on various routes, including services to Ebbw Vale Town, Cheltenham Spa, and Shrewsbury. Trains between Maesteg and Ebbw Vale Town will be terminated at Cardiff Central, with no services operating between Pontypridd and Cardiff Bay in both directions. Additionally, services to and from Coryton and Caerphilly have been suspended, with a reduced train service running between Cardiff Central and Merthyr Tydfil, Aberdare, and Treherbert.

Rail replacement transport has been arranged between Newport and Cardiff Central, as well as Cardiff Central and Caerphilly to help mitigate the impact of the ongoing repair work. The rail disruptions are expected to last until the end of April 22, affecting travelers on multiple key routes in the region
