Synnovis, a NHS provider, secured a £2bn contract in 2021 to deliver blood-testing services for hospitals and GPs across southeast London. Despite this, GPs have reported incorrect and delayed blood results as a regular concern, causing distress to patients.

Following a ransomware cyberattack in June 2024 that affected Synnovis’s ability to process samples, GPs across southeast London have highlighted the challenges faced under the current system. These issues have resulted in unnecessary hospital referrals and wasted patient appointments, significantly impacting patient care. One particular case involved an elderly man needing to spend hours in A&E due to problems with his blood test, highlighting the severity of the situation.
