Kaliyah Coa: Body found in search for girl, 11, in River Thames

An 11-year-old girl named Kaliyah Coa, who went missing in the River Thames almost two weeks ago, has been found deceased. The incident occurred on 31 March when Kaliyah was playing near Bargehouse Causeway in North Woolwich, east London, on a school inset day. Although the body has not been formally identified by the Met Police, Kaliyah’s family has been notified and is receiving support from specialized officers. The discovery was made near Maritime Quay in east London by the river, around 09:00 BST on a Sunday.

Following her disappearance, extensive search efforts were conducted by emergency services to locate Kaliyah. The next day, the Met Police announced that a “recovery mission” was underway. Reports from local residents indicated that Kaliyah was playing near the water with a young boy and girl before she went missing. Witnesses mentioned hearing shouts and screams, with other children saying that a girl had vanished in the water. Despite efforts to locate her, including the discovery of personal items like shoes, a sock, a coat, and a phone, Kaliyah remained unaccounted for.

Bargehouse Causeway, where Kaliyah entered the river, is described as a concrete slope leading directly into the River Thames and is frequently used for boat transportation. Some residents pointed out the slippery and moss-covered nature of the area, making it a potentially hazardous spot. The tragic incident has prompted concerns about the safety conditions along the riverbank and the need for increased awareness and precautions to prevent similar accidents in the future
