Cher Maximen murder: Man guilty of London stabbing at Notting Hill Carnival

A woman was tragically murdered in front of her young daughter during the 2024 Notting Hill Carnival, leading to a recent conviction of the perpetrator. Shakeil Thibou, a 20-year-old from Kensington, West London, was found guilty of the murder of 32-year-old Cher Maximen by a jury at the Old Bailey. The incident occurred on the first day of the carnival, known as family day, where Ms. Maximen was trying to enjoy the festival with her child and friends but got caught up in a fight between a group of men.

After a four-week trial, Thibou was convicted of the murder by a majority vote of 10 to two. He was also found guilty of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm to another carnival-goer. Additionally, Thibou was charged with possessing an offensive weapon, but he was acquitted of attempted murder. The court heard that Thibou used a weapon described as a zombie knife during the altercation, which ultimately led to Ms. Maximen’s tragic death.
