AXE Ceremonia, a festival based in Mexico City, released a statement following a tragic incident during the event over the weekend. On Saturday, April 5, two photographers lost their lives after a crane collapsed on the festival grounds. The fatal accident happened around 5:30PM local time while Meme Del Real was performing. The crane, which was lifting a large metal decorative object, was hit by a gust of wind, leading to its collapse.
According to a statement from the mayor’s office reported by El Universal, it is suspected that the crane may not have been properly inspected before the event. The victims, Miguel Angel Rojas aged 26, and Berenice Giles aged 28, were both working as photographers at the festival when the tragedy occurred. They were rushed to the hospital on Saturday evening but unfortunately succumbed to their injuries.
AXE Ceremonia expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the individuals and extended condolences to their families during this challenging time. The festival emphasized that the safety of its community has always been a top priority and promised to work closely with authorities while maintaining transparency. The event, which took place at Parque Bicentenario in Mexico City over two days, was canceled for the remaining day after the incident on Saturday.
