A nostalgic mix from the late Andrew Weatherall, dating back almost three decades, has recently surfaced online. Shared in its entirety on Twitter by Manchester-based rave archivist DorkSirjur, who specializes in curating rare and legendary mixes, the set spans just under 90 minutes and was recorded at the renowned club night Voodoo in Liverpool’s Clear venue in May 1997. The archivist expressed admiration for Weatherall, referring to him as an incredible DJ, producer, and artist sorely missed by all, while highlighting the uniqueness of this particular set.
Voodoo, which commenced in 1993, held regular events at the first-floor location of Liverpool club Clear on Mount Pleasant, attracting artists specializing in house and techno genres from various parts of the world. The rare mix is accessible for listening on Twitter, alongside a vast collection of over 800 other old-school mixes by renowned DJs such as Sasha, Danny Tenaglia, John Digweed, Deep Dish, Carl Cox, and Jeff Mills, among others. DorkSirjur appeals for donations from fans to support the maintenance and hosting of these mixes, emphasizing that all contributions go towards covering monthly hosting expenses.
Following his passing in February 2020, a compilation of Andrew Weatherall’s DJ mixes spanning more than 900 hours of music was made available online. The Weatherdrive, a Google Drive folder, features subfolders encompassing mixes, live recordings, and radio shows from 1988 to 2020, with recordings from venues like Lakota in Bristol, Ministry of Sound in London, Mission in Leeds, as well as appearances in European cities like Barcelona, Brussels, and Berlin. Weatherall’s legacy lives on through his music, with the 1997 mix from Voodoo in Liverpool serving as a testament to his enduring talent and influence in the electronic music scene
