Issue two of Manchester magazine SEEN is out now

Manchester magazine SEEN has released its second issue, featuring a variety of thought-provoking content. Among the highlights of this edition are a project that brings together artists from Manchester and Palestine, an examination of the ethics of sampling, an interview with AFRODEUTSCHE, an op-ed on protest and solidarity in South Asia, and an exploration of how social media shapes beauty standards in music.

The writers who have contributed to this issue include Iyunoluwanimi Yemi-Shodimu, Amelia Fearon, Dhruva Balram, Jessica Rogers, Jad Ghazali, Dr Zakiya Mckenzie, Sashwati Mira Sengupta, and Stephanie Ewurama (also known as SCAPA). The photography in this issue is credited to Alina Akbar. SEEN was established in 2022 by Tunde Adekoya, Kamila Rymajdo, and Balraj Samrai with the goal of challenging the London-centric narrative prevalent in music media.

Adekoya expressed the importance of print magazines as repositories of experiences, capturing the past, present, and potential future. He noted the lack of representation of diverse experiences by the majority of people who shape British culture. SEEN’s mission is to document these experiences and provide a platform for underrepresented voices. Issue two of SEEN is now available for purchase here.

By offering a space for diverse perspectives and stories, SEEN aims to counter the dominant narrative in music media and highlight the cultural richness present outside of London. The magazine serves as a testament to the vibrant creativity and voices that contribute to shaping the music landscape in Manchester and beyond.
