King’s Leadership Academy Wavertree, a non-selective free school, is scheduled to open its doors in September as the Department for Education has officially approved its funding agreement. The Great Schools Trust, a multi-academy trust, has been given the green light by the Secretary of State for Education to welcome the first intake of 210 year 7 students to the school. Ultimately, the institution aims to cater to a total of 1050 students between the ages of 11 to 16.
The Department for Education has submitted a planning application to Liverpool City Council to utilize modern temporary classrooms for the students upon the school’s opening in September. Positioned next to the prior office space of the video game company Sony on Wavertree Technology Park, the new school’s construction is anticipated to be completed by 2028. Benjamin Barker, Principal of King’s Leadership Academy Wavertree, expressed his excitement about the funding agreement, envisioning a top-notch learning environment for students when the new building is finished.
Shane Ierston, the Chief Executive of the Great Schools Trust, heralded the agreement with the Department for Education as a momentous occasion for their multi-academy trust. Emphasizing the importance of providing high-quality secondary education options for families of all faiths, Ierston reiterated the trust’s commitment to empowering students with the necessary tools and skills to flourish in a rapidly evolving world. Notably, King’s Wavertree will be the fifth secondary school under the Great Schools Trust, joining the ranks of King’s Liverpool and King’s Hawthornes in Merseyside, both of which have received a “Good” rating from Ofsted
