Prince William's Earthshot Prize 2025 to be held in Brazil

The upcoming Earthshot Prize, established by the Prince of Wales, is set to take place in Brazil later this year, coinciding with the COP30 UN climate change conference being hosted by the country. Kensington Palace has confirmed that the awards ceremony and associated events for nominees, investors, and environmental leaders will be held in Rio de Janeiro in November. This global environmental award offers a £1m prize to five winners who present the most promising solutions to significant climate challenges. The Earthshot Prize, a decade-long initiative, has previously held ceremonies in various cities such as London, Boston, Singapore, and Cape Town.

In a statement, Prince William expressed his enthusiasm for the Earthshot Prize, emphasizing the remarkable progress made in tackling the planet’s pressing issues through innovative solutions. The prince acknowledged the significant contributions of individuals making the world a better place for current and future generations. A promotional video for the upcoming event featured Prince William, as well as Earthshot supporters like David Beckham, Cate Blanchett, Hannah Waddingham, and former Brazilian footballer, Cafu. A total of fifteen projects will be shortlisted for the chance to win the prestigious awards.

Christiana Figueres, chair of the board of Earthshot trustees, highlighted Brazil’s critical role in addressing climate challenges, noting the significance of hosting the prize just before COP. With the event serving as a precursor to COP, which is scheduled to commence in Belém shortly after, attention will be drawn to the importance of sustainable practices and environmental conservation. The international community remains committed to advancing green technologies and promoting a cleaner, more sustainable world, despite political hurdles such as the skepticism expressed by figures like former US President Donald Trump
