Chancellor Rachel Reeves believes that granting these powers to Khan will enable London’s nightlife to flourish, benefiting local economies and individuals’ pockets. Khan has vowed to provide more support to the capital’s nightlife scene by overriding decisions that restrict the opening hours of clubs, pubs, theaters, and outdoor dining spots.
Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner emphasized the importance of prioritizing the growth of the country over objections from a vocal minority. This sentiment aligns with Khan’s efforts to address the challenges facing London’s nightlife, as demonstrated by the recent launch of the “Nightlife Taskforce.” This taskforce, unveiled in February, is part of Khan’s campaign manifesto and aims to create Night Time Strategies and a London Nightlife Fund to enhance the city’s after-hours offerings.
