River Thames: Picture released of missing girl, 11, Kaliyah Coa

The Metropolitan Police have released a photograph of 11-year-old Kaliyah Coa, who went missing in the River Thames on Monday. The incident occurred near Bargehouse Causeway, close to London City Airport in east London. Emergency services responded to the call about Kaliyah entering the water during a school inset day. Although a large-scale response was initiated, crews from the London Ambulance Service, London Fire Brigade, and RNLI were later stood down as a recovery mission began along the Thames.

Witnesses near the causeway reported hearing children shouting and screaming about their missing friend who had entered the water and disappeared. Residents pointed out that the causeway appeared to be covered in moss and was slippery, noting the potential dangers it posed. One woman recounted how her son had previously gotten into trouble in the same area when his ball rolled towards the water, causing panic and a rescue effort by her partner to save him.

Ch Supt Dan Card from the Met expressed the commitment of the force to locating Kaliyah, utilizing drone technology and boats in a thorough search over a wide area. Specialist officers are providing support to Kaliyah’s family during this difficult time. The public, first responders, and other emergency services were commended for their rapid and extensive search efforts. The Metropolitan Police are urging any witnesses to come forward as the search for Kaliyah continues, with assistance from HM Coastguard, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, and the London Fire Brigade
