Sean Kingston, the famous rapper, and his mother, Janice Turner, were recently found guilty of participating in a wire fraud scheme at a court hearing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The jury reached a verdict on Friday, March 28, convicting both Turner and Sean Kingston, whose real name is Kisean Anderson, on all five charges. Prosecutors alleged that Anderson and Turner defrauded various businesses by falsely claiming they had paid for luxury goods such as vehicles and jewelry totaling over $1 million using forged documents.
During the trial, the jury learned that Anderson and Turner would retain the fraudulently obtained possessions, including a $160,000 Cadillac Escalade and $480,000 worth of jewelry. Prosecutors stated that the pair amassed over $1 million in property through their fraudulent scheme. The defendants were taken into custody after Anderson’s Florida residence was searched in May 2024, where he was accused of fraudulently obtaining $111,000 worth of items for his home, including a 232-inch TV and sound system.
The judge in the case referred to Turner as the “fixer” in the scheme, while Anderson’s defense team claimed he was unaware of his financial situation, portraying him as naive and inexperienced. Despite the opportunity to testify during the trial, Anderson remained silent. Reportedly emotional, Anderson pleaded with the court to protect his mother when she was detained. Turner’s attorney has stated that they plan to appeal the verdict. The sentencing for Anderson and Turner is scheduled for July, and they could potentially face up to 20 years in prison for each count they were found guilty of committing
