RSO.Berlin among recipients of state grant funded by confiscated GDR assets

RSO.Berlin is one of the recipients of a recent grant from the Berlin Senate Chancellery, funded by confiscated assets from the German Democratic Republic (GDR). The Senate Chancellery of Berlin announced that three local institutions, including Tierpark zoo, sports complex Sportforum Hohenschönhausen, and RSO.Berlin, would be receiving a total of €555,736 in funding.

RSO will be utilizing the new funds to construct a modern toilet facility at their Schnellerstrasse-based venue. The GDR, also known as East Germany, was in existence from 1949 to 1990. After 1990, assets worth approximately €1.6 billion were confiscated from pro-regime parties and organizations of the former GDR to prevent embezzlement, and were then held in trusteeship by state officials.

Funds from the GDR’s former assets are distributed across Germany under an agreement with the Federal Agency for Special Tasks Related to Unification, with Berlin receiving 8% of the total amount. The venue will be hosting the Home Again Club Festival, known for its non-stop 100-hour music marathon. This summer’s lineup will feature artists like Peggy Gou, Helena Hauff, Logic1000, and more, with RSO leading the festival’s night-time programming.
