Firefighters have been deployed to tackle yet another blaze in the Mourne Mountains, this time on Slieve Binnian. The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) sent six fire engines and a command support unit to the scene on Wednesday evening. This incident comes after a large gorse fire on the same mountain earlier in the week, as well as two other fires in the area in the previous week.
One of the fires near Silent Valley and another near Castlewellan in County Down have left residents and officials concerned about the recurring incidents. The fire close to Castlewellan is suspected to have been deliberately started, adding to the worries of the community. DUP assembly member Diane Forsythe expressed her sadness at seeing Slieve Binnian on fire once again, urging the public to stay away from the area and allow the Fire and Rescue Service to carry out their duties uninterrupted.
