Just days before its scheduled opening, a Greggs store in Exhall, near Coventry, was the target of a destructive arson attack. Witnesses described the scene at the bakery on an industrial estate as turning into an “inferno” around 20:00 GMT on Friday, with the entire building engulfed in flames. The chain’s new location on Longford Road was set to open its doors on Monday, a spokesperson for Greggs confirmed.
Fortunately, there were no reports of anyone being inside the building at the time of the incident, and no injuries were reported, according to Warwickshire Police. The authorities have stated that the blaze was the result of a deliberate act of arson. Following the extinguishing of the fire, a thorough search of the premises will be conducted by officials.
In a statement, a representative from Greggs expressed their gratitude to the police and local fire departments for their dedicated efforts in managing the fire.
