Liverpool will honor eight remarkable individuals with the prestigious Citizen of Honour award in a special ceremony at Liverpool Town Hall. Among the recipients are sisters Natasha Jonas and Nikita Parris, marking a historic moment for the city. The awards will be presented on Wednesday, March 26, to acknowledge the significant contributions made by each honoree.
Lady Anne Dodd will be recognized for her philanthropic efforts, while former President of the Faculty of Public Health, Professor John Ashton, will receive the award for his impactful work in Public Health advocacy, innovation, and leadership. Boxer Natasha Jonas will be honored for her representation of Great Britain at the Olympics and her inspirational role for young women, along with her valuable contributions to youth work, education projects, and charitable endeavors. Additionally, former Rector of Liverpool, Dr. Crispin Pailing, will be acknowledged for his community engagement with local groups, faith organizations, businesses, and charities.
Footballer Nikita Parris will be celebrated for her remarkable achievements in football and her dedicated efforts to give back to the community. Creative consultant Yaw Owusu will receive the award for his commitment to nurturing the music careers of young artists from Liverpool and highlighting the city’s rich black music heritage. The award will also be posthumously awarded to community leader Chrissie Byrne, recognized for her passionate advocacy for green spaces and protection of parks from development, as well as photographer Leroy Cooper for his services to the community through art and photography, leaving behind a significant archive of his work.
The ceremony will be led by the Lord Mayor, Councillor Richard Kemp, along with Leader of Liverpool City Council, Councillor Liam Robinson, and City Council Chief Executive, Andrew Lewis. Five of the honorees will receive their certificates in person, while Nikita Parris’s sister will accept the award on her behalf. Family members of Chrissie Byrne and Leroy Cooper will accept their posthumous honors during the ceremony
