The rights to the back catalogue of music belonging to the late rapper Notorious B.I.G. have been sold by his estate, as reported by The Wall Street Journal. Before her passing in February, Biggie’s mother, Voletta Wallace, finalized a deal with music publishing and talent management company Primary Wave. Sources revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that Primary Wave will acquire a 50% interest in both his publishing rights and master rights, in addition to securing the rights to the late rapper’s name and likeness.

Following a lengthy endeavor to preserve her son’s legacy, Wallace played a significant role in the entire process of managing his estate and overseeing the release of his posthumous albums. Primary Wave expressed excitement about the partnership with the Estate of Notorious B.I.G., announcing the collaboration on Instagram on March 20. The Wall Street Journal disclosed that Biggie’s life’s work is estimated to be valued at over $200 million, marking a substantial increase from the value of the estate at the time of his tragic death in 1997 at the age of 24.

While specific details of the deal have not been made public, Primary Wave aims to utilize the rights to advance Biggie’s legacy and initiate projects that celebrate his story, according to WSJ. The agreement encompasses his name, image, and likeness, allowing for potential licensing of his work in various mediums such as film and theatre.
