Escaped prisoner sightings reported following van getaway
Authorities have confirmed sightings of an escaped prisoner who fled from a prison van under the guise of a medical emergency on a motorway. Jamie Cooper made a daring escape from a GEOAmey van that made a sudden stop at Junction 2 of the M55 near Catforth, Preston, just before 09:00 GMT on Wednesday, according to Lancashire Police.
The 33-year-old fugitive, originally from Blackpool with ties to Bolton, Greater Manchester, has been spotted in three different locations since his escape. The latest confirmed sighting of Cooper was in Blackpool during the early hours of Thursday morning. Additionally, sightings of him were reported in Preston and Bolton on Wednesday afternoon, prompting a warning from authorities for the public to avoid approaching him.
According to GEOAmey, the prisoner managed to deceive authorities by feigning a medical emergency while on board the van, forcing it to stop so the situation could be addressed. The prisoner then took advantage of the opportunity, overpowering and escaping from the escort officers.
Cooper, described as approximately 5ft 7in tall with a medium build and short, cropped hair, was last seen wearing a blue coat, blue jeans, and black trainers. He was slated to appear before magistrates in Lancaster to answer charges of assaulting a police officer and causing criminal damage
