Wildfires spread across Wales after period of dry weather

Wales is currently facing a challenging situation as firefighters battle numerous wildfires across the region. The combined South Wales and Mid & West Wales Fire and Rescue control room reported that crews are currently dealing with 42 different incidents, with an additional 20 yet to be assessed. One of the major fires occurred in Pengarnddu, Dowlais, Merthyr Tydfil, where multiple crews were dispatched to tackle a grass fire that had a fire front spanning around four to five kilometers.

Another significant fire broke out above Troedyrhiw Terrace, Treorchy, Rhondda Cynon Taf, which firefighters have deemed too dangerous to handle in the dark. As a result, the fire will be left to burn overnight until conditions are safe for intervention. The recent dry and sunny weather conditions have contributed to the outbreak of wildfires across Wales. Aside from the major incidents, numerous minor fires have also been reported, most of which only required a single fire appliance for containment. Control rooms have been overwhelmed with calls, with many being repeat reports of the same incident. In north Wales, firefighters are currently tackling a large wildfire in the Carrog area near Corwen, Denbighshire, visible from a considerable distance. Residents in Trawsfynydd and Bronaber areas of Gwynedd have been advised to keep windows and doors shut due to heavy smoke from a separate grass fire, marking the second such incident in the area this week. North Wales Fire and Rescue Service issued a statement urging landowners to conduct controlled burns responsibly and to notify fire officers beforehand
