Becky Burke, a 28-year-old tourist, was brought home to Wales after spending 19 days in the United States, according to her parents. Paul and Andrea Burke mentioned that their daughter was taken from a detention center in chains, similar to Hannibal Lecter, upon her arrival. The Northwest ICE Processing Center stated that individuals violating immigration laws could face arrest, detention, and removal from the US, regardless of their nationality.

Ms. Burke was repatriated to the UK on March 18 after her detention due to the violation of her admission terms and conditions. The Burke family believes that the misunderstanding of Becky’s accommodation arrangements led to her detainment. Becky’s father suspected that providing assistance to host families around the house for free accommodation may have been misconstrued as violating her tourist visa terms. Despite being escorted by ICE agents, Mrs. Burke emphasized that her daughter is not Hannibal Lecter and required assistance to walk.

While waiting for Becky’s return, her parents anxiously watched the airport gate until she finally emerged. The emotional reunion was described by Mrs. Burke as overwhelming. Becky expressed a mix of emotions upon her return, enjoying the simple comforts of home while feeling guilty for leaving others behind.
