Man believes he was wrong to change his gender

After undergoing surgery to reverse his initial transition, Joshua McParland, a man from Belfast who was transitioning to become a woman, now believes changing his gender was a mistake. At the age of 23, he acknowledges running away from his problems by trying to alter his sex. Joshua expressed regret about his decision, admitting that he had been questioning his gender since a young age.

In a turning point, Joshua decided to halt any further surgeries after embracing Christianity and coming to terms with his true identity. He reflected on the future he was surrendering by pursuing the transition, realizing that he was going against his beliefs. The journey to self-realization led him to renounce the alterations he had made to his body, including travelling to Turkey for breast implants in January 2024.

Although Joshua’s change of heart may spark controversy within the transgender community, he stands firm on his stance, asserting his entitlement to hold differing opinions. With the support of his mother, who had initially endorsed his transition procedures, Joshua has embarked on a new chapter in his life. He acknowledged that as a teenager, he erroneously believed he knew best, resulting in a tumultuous period characterized by substance abuse and risky behavior.

On the other hand, Ash Jones, a trans woman and Green Party representative in Belfast, emphasized the challenges faced by the trans community in accessing healthcare. She noted a detrimental shift in societal attitudes towards trans individuals, leading to increased difficulties in receiving essential services. Notwithstanding the hurdles, Ash expressed contentment with her decision to transition, describing the process as life-saving given the mental distress she had endured
