Erykah Badu is gearing up to release her sixth album, marking her return to new music after more than 15 years. The renowned neo-soul and R&B artist confirmed in a recent interview with Billboard that she has been busy in the studio working on new material. The upcoming album will be entirely produced by US hip hop DJ and producer The Alchemist, although specific details like the release date and title are yet to be revealed.
Her last full-length album, ‘New Amerykah Part Two (Return Of The Ankh)’, was released in 2010 as part of a two-part project. Following a five-year break, Badu dropped a mixtape titled ‘But You Caint Use My Phone’ in 2015. Speaking to Billboard, she expressed that the album has been consuming most of her time and she is eagerly anticipating its release. In January, Erykah Badu collaborated with Jamie xx on a new single, ‘F.U.’, which is featured on the deluxe edition of his recent album ‘In Waves’.
The track includes impromptu vocals from Badu, recorded during an afterparty at the Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona in 2019. This unique and spontaneous moment became a highlight of the song, showcasing Badu’s improvisational talent. Fans of Erykah Badu can look forward to her upcoming album, which promises to be a long-awaited and impactful addition to her discography
