Apprentice jockey Levi Williams in court charged with murder

Levi Williams, a 25-year-old apprentice jockey, has made a court appearance in connection with the tragic death of a pensioner following a brawl outside a pub. The incident took place in Newmarket, Suffolk, where police responded to reports of a confrontation involving four individuals around 3:40 PM on March 8th.

During the altercation outside the Waggon and Horses pub on High Street, it is alleged that Williams struck 71-year-old Richard Wingrove. As a result of the altercation, Mr. Wingrove was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and sadly passed away on March 18th.

Initially, Williams was taken into custody on suspicion of assault causing severe bodily harm and was later released on bail. However, he was rearrested and formally charged with murder by the police. Another individual, aged 45, was also hospitalized but discharged on the same day of the incident.

Appearing visibly emotional at Cambridge Crown Court, Williams, residing in Holland Park, Newmarket, was remanded in custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 9th. Meanwhile, a 23-year-old man arrested for assault causing grievous bodily harm and a 45-year-old man taken in for affray are both currently on police bail awaiting further legal proceedings
