Lisa Barrett, a grieving daughter, claims that her father’s ashes were lost in the mail during a transatlantic delivery mix-up. The incident has caused distress for Barrett, who criticized the Royal Mail for the disappearance of the sentimental package. Barrett’s sister in the US had sent their father’s ashes to her home in South Yorkshire, but the package never reached its intended destination.
According to reports, the parcel containing the ashes arrived in Doncaster in early January but was later returned to the US. The United States Postal Service stated that they never received the package due to it exceeding the retention period as the customs fee was not paid. Barrett expressed frustration over not being informed about the duty payment requirement or where to collect the package, causing turmoil within her family across the two continents.
Having moved from Missouri to Doncaster in 2001, Barrett explains that her father, Kenneth Wilson, passed away in 2021 in the US at the age of 85 due to natural causes. Financial constraints and health complications prevented Barrett from attending her father’s funeral in the US, further complicating her grieving process. She expressed that a part of her still longs to reach out to her father, stating that the reality of his passing has yet to fully sink in.
Barrett’s sister, Laura Greeno, who had cared for their father in his final years, decided to send his ashes to Barrett as a way to provide closure and comfort. The missing urn, which contained the ashes, was described as being within the Royal Mail’s restrictions for human remains, but its whereabouts remain unknown. Both sisters are deeply saddened by the loss of such a meaningful and significant item and are calling for accountability and transparency from the Royal Mail in resolving the issue
