Show your community pride at this year’s Great British Spring Clean

Spring has arrived, bringing the sunshine back and a call to action for all residents to participate in community clean-up efforts. Liverpool City Council is urging everyone to get involved in litter-picking events as part of the Great British Spring Clean. This nationwide campaign by Keep Britain Tidy runs from Friday, March 21 to Sunday, April 6, encouraging individuals to become #LitterHeroes and commit to cleaning up their local surroundings.

To kick off the cleaning activities, a special launch event will be held in West Derby next Friday at St Mary’s Church. Local school children from Blackmoor Park Infants and Juniors will lead the clean-up efforts alongside members of Liverpool City Council and the Neighbourhood Police team. For those not in the West Derby area, various community litter-picking events will be happening across the city throughout the Great British Spring Clean fortnight.

The annual Great British Spring Clean promotes the protection of beloved places by encouraging people to pledge to collect bags of litter. In Liverpool, last year’s Spring Clean saw 52 community events and activities, resulting in over 1500 bags’ worth of rubbish removed from the streets. The partnership between the Council and Keep Britain Tidy under the Keep Liverpool Tidy initiative has led to a positive increase in community litter-picking, especially with campaigns like the Great British Spring Clean providing an annual activity boost.
