Brandon Williams, a former Manchester United footballer, has confessed to dangerous driving after being caught driving at nearly 100mph. The incident occurred on the A34 near Handforth, Cheshire, on 20 August 2023. Williams pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving without third party insurance at Chester Crown Court. At the time of the offense, Williams was under contract with Manchester United and was driving an Audi A3 with a female passenger, reaching speeds of up to 99mph in a 70mph zone.
According to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), witnesses observed Williams driving erratically and in a dangerous manner. The car collided with a blue Ford Fiesta before crashing into the central reservation. Despite extensive damage to both vehicles, Williams tested negative for alcohol after being breathalysed. Following the crash, Williams, who was on loan to Ipswich Town, was treated for injuries at a hospital and then taken into custody.
Andrew Madden, a senior Crown Prosecution Service prosecutor, stated that Williams’ driving on that day was well below the expected standard of a competent driver. Expert analysis revealed that he was driving at 99mph just four seconds before impacting the Ford Fiesta. Witnesses reported Williams accelerating and braking abruptly, indicating a lack of control over the vehicle. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries or fatalities as a result of the incident. Manchester United opted not to renew Williams’ contract in June, and he is currently without a club. Williams is scheduled to be sentenced on 9 May at Chester Crown Court
