Seabass Vinyl, a vinyl pressing plant in East Lothian, has made history by becoming the first carbon-neutral plant in the UK. This recognition comes after the plant officially received certification from Carbon Neutral Britain. Co-founder Dominique Harvey expressed pride in this achievement, stating, “Being officially carbon neutral-certified is a major milestone for us. We’re the first pressing plant in the UK to achieve this and, we think, in the world.”
In their quest to be the most sustainable pressing plant globally, Seabass Vinyl has taken significant steps towards reducing their environmental impact. They generate their own energy using solar and wind power, recycle offcuts from pressings, and utilize bio-vinyl made from used cooking oil in certain pressings. Additionally, the plant has invested in energy-efficient cooling and boiler equipment, as well as operating in a highly insulated and airtight factory to minimize energy loss.
Seabass Vinyl, founded in 2023 by Dominique and David Harvey, is a family-run business located in East Lothian, just outside of Edinburgh. The plant not only focuses on producing high-quality records but also aims to positively impact the Scottish music industry through initiatives like the Sound of Young Scotland award. Their commitment to sustainability has influenced their plant design and operations, with the goal of becoming the most sustainable vinyl pressing plant in the world.
As Seabass Vinyl continues to lead the way in sustainable vinyl production, they hope to set an example for other pressing plants worldwide. Their dedication to eco-friendly practices and reducing their carbon footprint showcases a promising future for the music industry in terms of environmental responsibility
