A man who was convicted in 2011 for brainwashing and abusing children as part of an “evil” sex cult may soon be released after a parole board hearing. Colin Batley, who was 48 at the time of his trial in Swansea Crown Court, was found guilty of 35 offenses. Along with Batley, three women, including his estranged wife, were also sentenced to prison.
Despite having been previously denied release from prison by the parole board in 2023, Batley will have another hearing on March 7th, with a decision on his potential release expected within two weeks. Judge Paul Thomas KC had warned Batley during his trial that he might never be released due to the severity of his crimes.
Moving from London to Kidwelly, in Carmarthenshire, Batley established a cult in a cul-de-sac called Clos yr Onnen, where he and his followers engaged in a series of abusive acts against children and young adults in the area.
