Woman in court for murder of two-year-old found in Hampshire pond

A mother has faced court accusations of the murder of a two-year-old girl who tragically passed away after being discovered in a pond in a village. Annabel Mackey was found unresponsive in Kingsley Pond close to Bordon on 10th September 2023, following her reported disappearance. Sadly, she succumbed to her injuries in the hospital the following day.

Alice Mackey, a 42-year-old resident of Gibbs Lane in Oakhanger, made an appearance at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court to address the single charge of murder against her. Following the court appearance, she has been held in custody awaiting further proceedings scheduled to take place at Winchester Crown Court this week in relation to the incident involving the young Annabel.

The father of Annabel previously shared a heart-wrenching tribute to his daughter, honoring her memory as a “shining star” whose love will endure eternally. During the court appearance, Alice Mackey, attired in a pink hoody and jeans, spoke briefly to confirm personal details such as her name, address, and date of birth. The connection between Alice and Annabel’s tragic demise was established after the toddler was reported missing from her family home on Forge Road in Kingsley on the Sunday of 10th September 2023.

Law enforcement took measures to cordon off a property along Forge Road, situated approximately 1,500 feet away from the large pond accessible via a rough pathway. Notably, Alice Mackey’s parents were present in the courtroom during the brief hearing. The case has been referred to Winchester Crown Court for further deliberations, as district judge Stephen Apted highlighted the seriousness of the murder charge, stating that it can only be addressed by the crown court, consequently ruling that Alice be remanded in custody pending her appearance at the crown court
