Fundraiser launched to help cover funeral costs for Chicago’s DJ Funk

A fundraiser has been initiated to assist with covering the funeral expenses for DJ Funk, a prominent Chicago DJ and producer who is currently in a battle against stage four cancer. His family recently shared a crowdfunder, shedding light on the fact that DJ Funk, whose real name is Charles Chambers, is courageously fighting cancer but unfortunately does not have much time left. The family expressed the heartbreaking reality of preparing for his final farewell and emphasized the goal of providing Chambers with the tribute he rightfully deserves. Initially aiming to raise $10,000 for the cause, the fundraiser has already exceeded expectations with donations surpassing $22,000 thus far.

Originating from Chicago, Illinois, Chambers kickstarted his career in dance music in the late ’80s, quickly gaining fame with multiple releases on labels such as Dance Mania and Pro-Jex. Operating under the alias DJ Funk, Chambers played a pivotal role in shaping the early sound of ghetto house subsequent to the emergence of ghetto tech, navigating between Chicago, Detroit, and other regions in the Midwest. His album ‘Booty House Anthems’ from 1999 garnered widespread success, selling over a million copies across the US. This accomplishment was followed by two additional releases, ‘Booty House Anthems 2’ in 2006 and ‘Booty House Anthems 3′ in 2013.

In 2006, following a remix production for Justice, DJ Funk established his own label, Funk Records, serving as a platform for his own releases, mixtapes, singles, and compilations featuring renowned artists like DJ Deeon and Lil’ Louis. Additionally, DJ Funk made a notable appearance in the 1998 documentary ‘Modulations’, directed by Iara Lee, which explores the evolution of electronic music. The fundraiser continues to gather support and donations to aid in covering the expenses for DJ Funk’s funeral
