Woman charged with murdering two-year-old found in Hampshire pond

In a tragic incident, a woman has been charged with the murder of a two-year-old girl who was found unresponsive in a village pond. Annabel Mackey was discovered in Kingsley Pond, near Bordon, Hampshire, on 10 September 2023, after she was reported missing. Sadly, she was pronounced dead in the hospital a day later.

Alice Mackey, 42, of Gibbs Lane, Oakhanger, has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday in connection to the toddler’s death. Annabel’s father expressed his grief over the loss of his daughter, describing her as a “shining star” who will always be remembered with love.

Describing Annabel as a “beautiful, positive, and very happy little girl,” her father reminisced about her pure and caring nature. He mentioned her love for story time, dogs, and her doll, as well as her fondness for singing songs and nursery rhymes. The father highlighted Annabel’s infectious laughter and the joy she brought into their lives, urging others to carry on her spirit of positivity and kindness.

Following Annabel’s disappearance from her home on Forge Road, Kingsley, a police investigation led to the cordon of a nearby house situated about 1,500 ft (460m) from the pond where the tragic incident unfolded.
