The coordination and preparation for a range of upcoming events in the Merseyside region is well underway, with the Merseyside Police taking the lead in ensuring the safety and security of attendees. From the Aintree Races to Liverpool Pride, the police force’s planning teams are experienced in managing policing operations for major events. This includes iconic music concerts at the city’s waterfront and Anfield stadium, along with the eagerly anticipated addition of Radio 1’s Big Weekend at Sefton Park in May.
Chief Inspector Iain Wyke of Protective Security Operations at Merseyside Police emphasized the importance of early operational planning and collaboration with partners to minimize disruptions to local communities. Training sessions have been conducted for event organizers, venue staff, and local businesses to identify suspicious activities and take appropriate action. Working closely with partners ensures the smooth execution of events, prevents potential criminal activities, and prioritizes public safety.
Councillor Harry Doyle, Liverpool City Council’s Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing, and Culture, highlighted the value of the partnership with Merseyside Police in supporting Project Servator. This collaborative effort aims to disrupt criminal activities and prioritize public safety before and during the events hosted in the city. The force will utilize various strategies in their operational plans, including Project Servator deployments, which have been operational in Merseyside since 2018. These deployments consist of trained officers in both uniform and plain clothes who are trained to identify potential threats and encourage the public to report suspicious activities.
The visible presence of Project Servator deployments is supported by specialized roles within the force, such as firearms officers and dog handlers. These officers are equipped with round-the-clock monitoring capabilities through the City Watch CCTV network, ensuring swift responses to any security concerns. Members of the public are urged to cooperate with law enforcement by reporting any suspicious activities they witness immediately to ensure a successful and safe series of events. If necessary, individuals can contact the police directly or visit www.gov.uk/act for guidance on identifying and reporting suspicious behavior
