The incident occurred at around 19:00 GMT on Wednesday at a flat on Cobhorn Drive in south Bristol. Following the tragic event, a man and woman in their 20s were arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dangerously out-of-control dog causing injury resulting in death and possession of a prohibited breed of dog. They have since been released on conditional bail.
Authorities have confirmed that the dog involved in the attack has been euthanized. While the breed is still being determined, initial reports suggest it may have been an XL bully. Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward by contacting them at 101. In a press conference held on Thursday, Insp Terry Murphy of Avon and Somerset Police described the incident as “incredibly rare” and announced an increased police presence in the area in the days to come. He expressed condolences for the family of the young woman who tragically lost her life, emphasizing that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the event.
