BBC News, Manchester – Lynette Horsburgh & Rachael Lazaro

Human remains have been discovered by police in the search for the body of Rania Alayed, who was murdered by her husband back in 2013. Ahmed Al-Khatib was convicted for the premeditated “honour killing” of the mother-of-three, but her body had never been located. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) recently received new information that led them to search for the 25-year-old near the A19 in Thirsk, North Yorkshire. It was in this location that remains believed to be Ms. Alayed were found buried.

In 2014, Al-Khatib, hailing from Gorton, was found guilty of Ms. Alayed’s murder, resulting in a life sentence with a minimum of 20 years in prison. Official identification of the remains discovered has not occurred yet, but Ms. Alayed’s family has been notified about the find. This significant development in finally locating her remains has brought a sense of closure to her loved ones after enduring years of pain and suffering.
