Bhim Kohli, an 80-year-old man, tragically died in a park after being kicked and punched by a 15-year-old boy in an attack designed to unleash anger, a court has disclosed. Leicester Crown Court was told that the boy subjected Mr Kohli to racial abuse and violence, with a 13-year-old girl filming the incident while laughing. Despite receiving treatment at a hospital, Mr Kohli passed away the day after the assault, which happened just yards away from his home in Franklin Park, Leicestershire, on 1 September the previous year.
The accused pair, who were 14 and 12 at the time of the incident, have not been named due to their ages, as reported in court documents. The prosecutor, Harpreet Sandhu KC, revealed that Mr Kohli’s cause of death was a neck injury leading to spinal cord damage, in addition to other injuries such as fractured ribs. CCTV footage captured the victim walking his dog, Rocky, to Franklin Park, shortly followed by the defendants and three other children.
