Wales amber weather warning for heavy rain on Sunday

According to the Met Office, heavy rain is predicted to cause flooding and disruptions in various parts of Wales. An amber weather warning has been issued for mid and south east Wales starting from 15:00 GMT on Sunday until 06:00 on Monday. Additionally, wind gusts of up to 60mph (97km/hr) are expected inland across Wales until 18:00 on Sunday.

The forecaster has cautioned that the rain may become “persistent and heavy” on Sunday, with showers continuing into Monday morning. This could potentially result in surface water and river flooding. It is anticipated that up to 70mm (2.8in) of rain will fall across the region, with areas of exposed hills receiving up to 100mm (4in) of rainfall.

The amber rain warning covers several areas including Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Carmarthenshire, Merthyr Tydfil, Monmouthshire, Neath Port Talbot, Newport, Powys, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Swansea, Torfaen, and the Vale of Glamorgan. In contrast, there is a less severe yellow warning for rain in place for similar areas from 12:00 on Sunday until 08:00 on Monday. This warning includes regions such as Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and Vale of Glamorgan among others
