Bodelwyddan: Man jailed for raping woman in hospital toilet

A man convicted of rape has been sentenced to life in prison for assaulting a woman in a hospital restroom just six months after being released from prison. Lee James Mullen, aged 38, from Flint, carried out the attack in a restroom at Glan Clwyd Hospital in Bodelwyddan after the woman had visited a friend. The assault came to an end when the woman’s husband checked on her, causing Mullen – who must serve a minimum of seven years – to run away.

The victim, who is in her early 60s, stated that although “this could have happened to anyone, better it be me than a 90-year-old woman who may never recover or a young child or one of the ‘angels’ who walk the wards keeping us safe.” Mullen had been released on parole in June of the previous year after being sentenced to 11 years in prison for raping and assaulting a woman in 2015. On the day of the attack, he had been in Glan Clwyd visiting a friend while also consuming cocaine and alcohol.
