Nathan Gill: Former Reform UK Wales leader charged with bribery

Nathan Gill, the former leader of Reform UK in Wales, is set to make a court appearance on Monday to face charges of bribery. The allegations stem from an investigation conducted by detectives from the Metropolitan Police’s counter-terrorism command. Gill, who previously served as a Member of the European Parliament for nearly six years and briefly represented north Wales in the Welsh Parliament, is facing eight counts of bribery and one count of conspiracy to commit bribery.

Reform Wales, however, clarified that Nathan Gill is no longer affiliated with Reform UK. Gill’s political career began when he was elected as a UKIP MEP in 2014, later transitioning to the Welsh Parliament in 2016. Despite his brief tenure as an Assembly Member, he held leadership positions within UKIP for Wales and was associated with the Brexit Party before joining its successor, Reform. Gill notably spearheaded Reform’s campaign for the 2021 Welsh Parliament election.

The Metropolitan Police revealed that Nathan Gill, aged 51, was questioned under caution on March 3, 2022, leading to his subsequent charging after further inquiries were conducted and authorized by the Crown Prosecution Service Counter Terrorism Division. He is scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on the specified court date for the allegations to be addressed and adjudicated. The specific timeline of when Gill relinquished his leadership role within Reform UK Wales remains unclear, as the position has been vacant for a period of time
