FISHER and Dom Dolla reportedly paid £1.2 million to play at Saudi-backed golf tournament

FISHER and Dom Dolla were compensated $2.5 million AUD (or £1.2 million) for their performances at a Saudi-backed golf tournament in Australia over the weekend, as reported by the Sydney Morning Herald. The LIV golf tournament took place from February 14-16 at the Grande Golf Club in Adelaide, featuring a men’s golf competition alongside a music festival.

On Friday, Dom Dolla headlined the first day of the event, marking his exclusive “South Australia” show for 2025. Meanwhile, FISHER, who headlined the tournament in 2024, took the stage on the final day on Sunday. The Sydney Morning Herald disclosed that the two DJs, both originating from Australia, received a combined fee of $2.5 million AUD for their appearances, with sources in the music industry sharing this information under anonymity due to contract confidentiality.

LIV golf, an independent entity from the PGA tour, organizes tournaments globally in locations like the UK, Hong Kong, Miami, Riyadh, and more. The funding for LIV golf is provided by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Prince Mohammed bin Salman, one of the world’s largest sovereign wealth funds with investments spanning various industries worldwide. Despite its diverse investments, allegations of “culture washing” have emerged, suggesting that Saudi Arabia’s reputation is being polished through associations with high-profile sporting and entertainment ventures to divert attention from its concerning human rights track record.

The PIF’s involvement in events like the MDLBEAST festival has drawn criticism as human rights organizations view it as an effort to present a progressive image of Saudi Arabia globally. The influence of Saudi Arabia, particularly within the golf industry, has been noted for censoring negative opinions. PGA officials associated with LIV golf have allegedly been bound by a clause restricting criticism against Saudi Arabia’s human rights practices. The situation in Saudi Arabia continues to be dire, with reports of harsh repression on dissent, exploitation of migrant workers, limited rights for women, and the illegal status of same-sex relationships under the law.
