Iranian officials stated that the Foremans had entered the country posing as tourists but were allegedly gathering information across various provinces.
Originally from East Sussex, the Foremans had relocated to Andalucia, Spain, in 2019, aiming for a fresh start. Their journey was documented on an episode of Channel 4’s A New Life in the Sun in 2022, showcasing their expat life. The couple, who had been traveling the world on a motorbike, had intended to spend only five days in Iran before continuing their journey to Australia. They had crossed into Iran from Armenia on December 30 and were en route to Pakistan by January 4.
Prior to their detention, Craig and Lindsay Foreman had posted on social media expressing their excitement about being in Iran. Lindsay, a life coach with a psychology doctorate, described her experience as “amazing,” while her carpenter husband, Craig, praised the country and its people. Iranian officials claimed that the couple had been monitored by intelligence agencies in various provinces, leading to their arrest as part of a coordinated intelligence operation.
