Angry neighbours dub Edinburgh inflatable dome 'enormous zit'

Referred to as a gigantic bouncy castle by locals, the dome has disrupted the scenic views of the neighborhood’s elegant Georgian architecture. The incessant noise and vibrations from the electric fans needed to keep the dome inflated have also left residents sleep-deprived.

Despite the City of Edinburgh Council initially rejecting the plans for the dome, it was eventually erected at a private sports club in October with the Scottish government’s intervention. The dome houses tennis courts and has faced backlash from the community, with some residents demanding visual adjustments and soundproofing to mitigate its impact. Claire Baxter, a 45-year-old resident, expressed shock and dismay at the unsightly structure, likening it to an “enormous zit” that mars the neighborhood’s charm.

Keith Hughes, a local resident, compared living beside the inflatable dome to having London’s Millennium Dome right outside his window. The constant hum of the fans keeping the tennis court roof inflated has led to sleepless nights for Hughes, prompting him to consider moving houses.
