Renowned writer Russell T Davies is set to bring a new LGBT drama to television screens in the near future, following the success of his previous work, It’s A Sin. The upcoming five-part series, titled Tip Toe, will revolve around electrician Clive, a father of two teenage sons, and Leo, who manages a bar on Canal Street in Manchester.
Expressing his motivations behind creating the show, Davies remarked, “This is a show I had to write because the world is getting stranger, tougher and darker, and frankly, the fight is on.” Tip Toe comes on the heels of the acclaimed series It’s A Sin, which delved into the lives of a group of friends navigating the HIV/Aids crisis in 1980s London.
Davies, whose breakthrough Channel 4 series Queer As Folk premiered in 1999, shared in a 2023 interview with BBC Wales his desire to develop a more somber LGBTQ+ narrative, citing the prevalence of “hatred in the air.” The executive producer of Tip Toe, Nicola Shindler, expressed her enthusiasm for collaborating with Davies once again, emphasizing the significance of the story being told.
Moreover, Shindler highlighted the relevance of the drama in today’s context, noting the blend of “Russell’s brilliant wit, warmth and devastating poignancy.” Casting information for Tip Toe is expected to be disclosed in the following months as the series is brought to life under the production of Quay Street Productions, a division of ITV Studios, with Davies, Shindler, and Peter Hoar serving as executive producers
