A long-awaited Avicii track has finally been released almost ten years after the beloved DJ and producer performed it at his last show. Titled ‘Forever Yours – Tim’s 2016 Ibiza Version’, the track dropped on February 14 through Interscope Records and Pophouse with authorization from the Avicii Estate.
The decision to release this posthumous track was prompted by the overwhelming reactions of fans online. This release comes in the wake of a recent Netflix documentary exploring Avicii’s life and legacy, culminating in footage from his final performance at Ushuaïa Ibiza in 2016. ‘Forever Yours’ features vocals from Swedish singer-songwriter Sandro Cavazza and can be heard in the documentary and subsequent concert film released in December.
Accompanying the release of ‘Forever Yours – Tim’s 2016 Ibiza Version’ is a behind-the-scenes video showcasing Avicii’s creative process. The video provides glimpses of the late artist in the studio, performing the track in the desert, and his poignant final performance in Ibiza. While the posthumous single received approval from Avicii’s estate, ethical concerns surrounding the release of unreleased music from the late DJ have long been a topic of debate.
In December, a Netflix documentary titled “I’m Tim” was released, shedding light on Avicii’s remarkable career and personal struggles. Directed by Swedish journalist and director Henrik Burman, the documentary features never-before-seen footage, offering a deeper insight into the life of the influential artist.
