Liverpool residents will have the opportunity to participate in the city’s green waste recycling program once again, as green bin collections resume starting on Monday 24 February. The service operates from the final week of February until the last week of November annually. Those who enroll in green bin collections can have their grass clippings, dead plants, leaves, and small branches collected on a fortnightly schedule.
In addition to tidying up excess garden materials, the green waste collection service ensures that unwanted green waste is repurposed efficiently, eliminating the need for inefficient incineration. The collected waste is transported to a specialized recycling facility where it is broken down and transformed into compost. The annual fee for the upcoming year will stay at £50, equating to £2.50 per collection. Those who purchase multiple bins are eligible for a discount, with each household permitted to acquire up to five bins.
Cllr Laura Robertson-Collins, Liverpool City Council’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Communities, and Streetscene emphasized the value of the green waste collection service for residents. She highlighted its convenience in saving residents multiple trips to recycling centers and emphasized the positive impact of recycling garden waste on the environment. Residents are also encouraged to consider utilizing home composters for their garden waste, creating a sustainable cycle by using the resulting compost as a natural fertilizer for their plants.
