Stephen Holmes, 31, tragically passed away in hospital after an incident in Strabane on 3 February. Dylan McCrossan, also 31, from Beechmount Village, Strabane, had previously been charged in relation to the assault.

Prosecutors requested District Judge Oonagh Mullan to withdraw the initial charge of grievous bodily harm and change it to murder during a brief hearing in Strabane Magistrates’ Court. Despite McCrossan’s absence, the charge was officially modified to reflect the new development.

With members of Mr. Holmes’ family present in the public gallery, the judge decided to remand McCrossan in custody until the next hearing, which is scheduled to take place via video link on 6 March. The defense did not object to this decision, marking a significant step in the legal proceedings related to this tragic case
