Police catching motorists doing 90mph on 30mph roads

A recent report from the RAC reveals that nearly half of UK police forces have captured drivers exceeding speeds of over 90mph on 30mph roads within a 20-month period ending in August. Shockingly, 48% of the forces caught drivers going more than three times the legal limit, while a staggering 90% had recorded individuals traveling at speeds of 60mph.

The statistics show a concerning trend of reckless driving behavior across the country. The highest speed recorded on a 30mph road was a whopping 122mph in South Yorkshire, demonstrating a blatant disregard for road safety. Similarly, North Wales Police noted a top speed of 88mph on 20mph roads, emphasizing the need for stricter enforcement measures.

In a separate incident, the highest speed ever recorded on any road in the UK was a mind-boggling 167mph on a 70mph stretch of the M1 in Leicestershire. Such reckless driving poses a significant threat to public safety and highlights the urgent need for improved road safety measures.

The data, obtained through Freedom of Information requests to 45 police forces, shed light on the alarming prevalence of dangerous driving practices on UK roads. RAC road safety spokesperson Rod Dennis expressed concern over the findings, emphasizing the grave risks posed by such behavior. The report underscores the critical importance of implementing stringent measures to curb excessive speeding and ensure the safety of all road users
