A new music venue with a capacity of 2,000 is set to open in Canada Water, led by the team responsible for DRUMSHEDS and the now-closed Printworks. The venue, named Corner Corner, will be located in a 1980s shopping center in Surrey Quays that is scheduled for demolition in the coming years. The Southwark Council planning committee approved plans for the venue during a meeting on February 5.
Property developers British Land, in partnership with Broadwick, submitted the plans for Corner Corner, aiming for an opening in spring 2025. Described as a “cultural hub” with 50,000 sq ft of space overlooking Canada Dock, the venue will feature collaborative workspaces, live music, and various food and beverage outlets. Additionally, it will house London’s largest indoor urban vertical farm to produce herbs and salad leaves for use in the venue’s food stalls.
According to reports, Corner Corner will collaborate with KERB markets, a food market chain with locations around London. The venue will include an all-day cafe focused on hyper-local, sustainable farming. While the space will predominantly host live jazz gigs, it will also hold ticketed events on weekends. Approval has been granted for Corner Corner to operate until 3:AM on Thursdays through Saturdays, subject to licensing permissions, with British Land expressing no intention to regularly hold late-night events
