Hope Gordon: Community mourns murdered schoolgirl at funeral

The funeral of six-year-old Hope Gordon, who was found murdered alongside her 36-year-old father Mark Gordon in their West Calder home on January 20th, took place in Livingston. Mourners came out in full force to pay their respects to the young schoolgirl as she was laid to rest in a private ceremony. Following the ceremony, her coffin was transported by horse-drawn carriage through the area of Dedridge to its final location at Adambrae Cemetery.

Police Scotland has opened a murder investigation into Hope’s death, while reporting that the death of her father is not considered suspicious. Fiona Linfoot, head teacher at Toronto Primary School, where Hope was a student, remembers her as “a bright, bubbly, and affectionate girl.” Specialist officers continue to provide support to the Gordon family as they deal with their loss.

A fundraising campaign organised by one of their family friends managed to raise over £10,000 that covered the costs of the young girl’s funeral. Hope was described as “a vibrant and loving little girl, known for her infectious smile, kind spirit, and deep love for animals”. The community poured out their support for the Gordon family and came together to pay their respects to the little girl whose life was taken too soon.

The murder of a six-year-old child has left the community in shock. With the investigation ongoing, the loss of life within the family has not only affected their loved ones, but it has also touched the hearts of strangers who have come forward to show their support. It is a tragedy that the loss of a young life continues to bring the community together in mourning while they come to terms with their loss. The hope is that justice will be served, and the family can begin to heal and honour the lives that meant so much to them
