Netley boy saves thousands of sweet tubs from landfill

A six-year-old boy named Teddy has collected over 2,500 plastic confectionery tubs, believing that he is saving the planet by doing so. The child from Netley, Hampshire became angry after finding out that tubs, which are widely seen at supermarkets and stores, could not be recycled by the roadside.

Last year the child had managed to obtain 358 of the plastic tubs, which are known to be sold with chocolates, sweets, or crackers inside. He wrote a letter to his school, which then asked parents to contribute as well. Teddy also printed out posters and put them around local stores while also asking his grandfather to go to the local tip to collect any tubs that would have been thrown away and end up in landfills.

The child’s dedication to this has increased and he has begun collecting the tubs from people’s properties and removing them from bins. Teddy’s recent social media post, where he described himself as an “eco warrior on a mission”, further boosted the amount of donations and reached more people.

This act has been a part of Greene King’s Tub2Pub charity appeal and the tubs will now be taken to a plastic reprocessing center. When asked whether he plans to do this next year, Teddy said he plans on taking a break as he has been doing it for two years in a row!
